Papers are invited for a two-day workshop titled Energy and Poverty: Clean Cooking Fuels, to be held in conjunction with the 31st IAEE International Conference in Istanbul, June 16-17, 2008. The workshop will focus on barriers to the transition to cleaner, more efficient fuels and technologies for meeting the cooking needs of the poor, and measures for enhancing access, affordability, and supply.
Major themes of the workshop include:
Strategies of suppliers of modern fuels; substitution, market creation
The role of the private sector in financial leveraging, venture capital, and business models to scale up successful initiatives
The role of government and public policies, particularly regarding pricing and regulation to attract private participation
Analysis of successes and failures of past policies to improve access to modern fuels
Making energy provisioning for the poor a central component of broader development strategies
